Following the Malawi National soccer team’s historic victory which saw the team booking it’s ticket to the AFCON 2021 finals in Cameroon, Football Association of Malawi (FAM) president Water Nyamilandu has expressed optimism that Coach Meke Mwase’s expired contract will be renewed.
The Monday’s game which Flames beat the Cranes of Uganda by 1-0 at Kamuzu stadium in Blantyre was the last task for Mwase to be incharge after signing a one year contract.
But speaking after the Flames’ triump, Nyamilandu said Mwase has proved beyond reasonable doubt that he is the man for the job.
Nyamilandu said: “What else do we expect to prove that Mwase is capable for the job? It will be a total madness to let him go at this point.”
He expressed hope that government and all the stakeholders will not have a second thought on the matter.
Nyamilandu has further asked government to trpple funds allocated to the National team as a token of appreciation to the great job showcased by the team.
A lone goal by Richard Mbulu who headed a cross from Stanley Sanudi in the 15th minute of the first half was enough to take Flames to the AFCON finals for the third time in history.
The team qualalified for the finals in 1984 and 2010.
