Young people are waiting to be appointed in the next cabinet which President Lazarus Chakwera is expected to announce within the next 48 hours.
Speaking to YONECO FM online, youth rights campaigner, Chimwemwe Kaonga said young people who are deserving should be at the centre of decision making and development in the country.
“In the previous cabinet much as we commend the president on gender balance, we saw that there was a gap in in the representation of young people.
“This contravenes with Malawi’s 2063 agenda which puts young people at the centre of development and the National Youth policy which seeks for 30% youth representation at all levels of decision making among others,” said Kaonga
He reminded President Chakwera of the pledges that his government made to young people saying these were the very reasons young people voted him into power.
Political analyst Happy Kayuni described the cabinet reshuffle as long overdue saying the president is lacking swiftness in decision making.
“We were hoping the cabinet will be reshuffled way back because the president had mentioned that after assessing the performance of his cabinet in a space of five months changes will take place,” he said.
