Primary school learners in Mzuzu on Tuesday took to the streets to demonstrate against the teachers strike currently underway.
The teachers strike follows the expiry of a seven-day notice teachers gave government to pay COVID-19 risk allowances to public primary and secondary school teachers as well as Teachers Training College lecturers in the country.
The learners presented a petition at the District Education Manager for Mzuzu City and vowed to continue demonstrating if their plea will not be heard.
“The strike is affecting some of us who will be seating for Primary School Leaving Education Certificate Examination therefore we will continue to demonstrate if government does not address this issue with urgency,” bemoaned the learners.
Commenting after receiving the petition District Education Manager for Mzuzu City Nameson Ngwira said he will deliver the message to officials at the ministry of education.
