The Malawi Police Service has arrested 10 police officers on suspicion that they were aiding illegal immigrants in the country.
Through a press statement signed by Public Relations Officer for police James Kadadzera, both officers are from Kasungu police and are suspected to have received money from 18 illegal migrants whom 15 are Ethiopians and 3 are Somalia’s for a free passage at police check points.
Their move was busted by Criminal Investigations Department (CID) officers who intercepted the illegal activity at Chilanga area in Kasungu district on April 2, 2021 reads part of the statement.
Kadadzera said the officers are likely to answer charges of aiding immigrants, abuse of office and corrupt practices.
Police reiterates its stand to clean out unprofessional and corrupt conduct among its rank and file to serve Malawians better.
Police has since urged the public to report anyone, including police officers involved in illegal activities, to the nearest police station for action.
