The Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 has eased restrictions that were imposed months ago as part of COVID-19 containment measures.
Co-chairperson of the taskforce Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda said the decision has been arrived at considering that the positivity rate has now reduced to 2.5 percent.
With the new development, in-door gatherings have been increased from 50 to 100 people while out-door gatherings will be allowed to gather to a limited number of 250.
Shops and restaurants will be allowed to operate up to 10PM while bars will be allowed to do business until 12 mid-night.
Minibus are now allowed to carry 75 percent passenger capacity meaning that a 16 percent seater minibus will be allowed to carry not above 12 passengers.
Chiponda however expressed concern that many people in the country have relaxed on COVID-19 preventive measures.
She has since asked the police to ensure people are wearing face masks in public.
The changes are effective Friday, April 23, 2021.
