Information Communication Technology Association of Malawi (ICTAM) says the country is making significant progress in innovations that are also being recognized globally.
ICTAM president Bram Fudzulani made the remarks as Malawi joins the global community to commemorate the world creativity and innovation day.
“A decade ago there were a lot of institutional challenges but there has been some progress, we’ve seen quite a number of innovators coming on the limelight and getting supported,” he said.
Fudzulani also mentioned that the private sector and government have been working together to support innovators by among others organizing competitions and building their capacity.
“Previously there was no proper coordination between government and private sector working with innovators but we have seen a tremendous improvement over the years,” he said.
Fudzulani also spoke of the stories written about Malawi innovators by the World Bank and countries like China.
He also cited an example of Gabriel Konjesi a Mulanje based creator of Pachikweza Broadcasting Corporation who has recently been awarded a scholarship by the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST) through its Institute of Industrial Research and Innovation (MIIRI).
