Plan International Malawi has pumped in K2.2 million to the 2021 media awards which will be facilitated by the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Malawi.
From the amount K1.5 million, will be given to outstanding journalists in the online, print and electronic categories of the Girl Child and Women’s Rights Award.
Speaking during a symbolic handover of the cheque, MISA Malawi PIM’s communications and campaign manager Rogers Siula stated that there has been an improvement in the way the media has reported on issues of the girl child and women’s rights in the past year.
“Overall PIM is impressed with the increased media coverage of women and children’s rights issues which are well investigated and have stimulated action from duty bearers and relevant stakeholder.”
Reacting to the donation Misa Malawi Chairperson Teresa Ndanga said MISA is appreciative of the technical and financial support from Plan International Malawi.
The world press freedom day will be commemorated under the theme, “Information as a public good”.
