The main opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has appointed Nkhotakota North East Legislator Martha Lunji as the party’s Chief Whip in Parliament.
The party has confirmed this in a statement.
Legislator Lunji replaces Vuwa Kaunda who ceased to be lawmaker following the Supreme Court of Appeal’s decision to nullify 2019 Parliamentary elections results for Nkhata-Bay Central Constituency where Kaunda was declared winner.
On April 21, Supreme Court of appeal nullified the elections after People’s Party politician Raphael Mhone appealed against Mzuzu High Court judgment that upheld Kaunda’s victory in the elections.
In a statement, spokesperson for DPP Brown Mpinganjira said the party has also selected the party’s MP, Nick Masebo as deputy chief whip and lawmaker Chimwemwe Chipungu as a member for Public Appointments Committee.
Mpinganjira has since said the appointments are with immediate effect saying the names have already been submitted to Speaker of Parliament Catherine Gotani Hara.
