President Lazarus Chakwera has warned Malawians against politics of divisiveness and hero-worshiping.
Chakwera was speaking on Friday at a memorial event for the life of the Malawi’s first president Hastings Kamuzu Banda held at Kamuzu Mausoleum in Lilongwe.
Chakwera said it was national unity upon which Malawi was founded for hence the need for the country to unite beyond regional and tribal boundaries in order to develop.
He also encouraged those in leadership and all Malawians to do only what is expected of them and warned against pushing him into dictatorial leadership.
In his speech, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Wildlife Michael Usi revealed government plans to construct a fence and museum at Kamuzu Mausoleum as part of preserving history.
