As the country expects to roll out a second phase of Covid-19 vaccination exercise on June 3, a healthy rights activist has advised authorities to learn from the past weaknesses on the part of awareness messages.
The first vaccination exercise campaign, which is currently underway, is marred by a lot of myths a development which has been blamed on inadequate civic education to the masses.
Speaking to Yoneco FM Online, George Jobe, said the package of awareness messages must be reviewed to make sure it’s effective ahead of the second phase.
Jobe said: “There is need to repackaged the awareness messages and the most crucial part to be considered is to involve more the community structure leaderships; chiefs, religious leaders, area and village development committees.”
He said involving the community leaders will help to easily convince people to get rid of myths that they have on the vaccine.
The activist further tipped authorities to be more careful with the messages considering that this time around there will be two different groups expected to be getting the jab.
“Knowing that as we go into second phase, awareness will be targeting two groups; those getting the jab for the first time and those receiving it for the second time, so there is need to be more careful with our messages,” he said.
According to Ministry of Health, 332, 955 doses had been administered in the country as of Sunday, May 16.
The country is expected to receive a consignment of AstraZeneca vaccine at the end of this month to be administered in the second phase of the vaccination exercise.
