An appeal has gone out to people using Lake Malawi and associated lakes to exercise caution in order to avoid loss of life due to the incursion of Mwera Winds.
According to the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services, lake waters will be rough due to Mwera Winds over the water bodies.
“Lake waters are expected to rough due to Mwera winds over the lake waters.
“And those plying trade over Lake Malawi and associated lakes to exercise caution in order to avoid loss of life and property due to the incursion of Mwera winds,” warned in a statement released by the Department.
During the past week, lowest temperatures were as follows: in the south it was 8 degrees Celsius recorded at Masambanjati in Thyolo on May 10, in the center was 7 degrees Celsius at Mwimba in Kasungu on May 12 and in the north was 7 degree Celsius at Chikangawa on May 12, 2021.
Speaking to Yoneco FM, the Department`s Director Jolamu Nkhokwe added that most areas across the country are expected to continue experiencing cool to cloudy weather condition throughout the week.
“Most areas in the south, center and north of the country are to continue experiencing mostly sunny, cool to warm and partly cloudy weather during daytime.
“But cool to cold and mostly clear skies with occasional windy weather conditions at night and during morning hours,” said Nkhokwe.
The Department has however warned that there will be an interlude with cool to cold, cloudy and windy weather conditions associated with fog and rain drizzles are expected as of Wednesday May 19 to Thursday May 20, 2021 due to an invasion of cool and moist airflow from the south east.
