Ministry of Homeland Security through the National Registration Bureau (NRB) will rollout mass outreach programme on national identity cards-IDs from May 26, 2021.
Chief Director for the body-Moses Chiwoni said government has pumped the funds for the initiative that will renew the expired national identity cards.
According to National Registration Bureau (NRB), the renewal exercise will commence in four districts of Lilongwe, Zomba, Blantyre and Mzimba on Wednesday this week.
NRB however said from 1st June, 2021, the exercise will be rolled out to all the wards across the country.
The process will also give a room to citizens whose national IDs were lost or damaged or have reached 16 years of age will also have an chance to either replace their cards or register for a new card respectively.
“Citizens whose IDs expired or lost/damaged will be required to pay a replacement fee of K2, 500 to a Treasury Cashier at that particular centre,” reads part of the statement.
About 3 million IDs for citizen expire this year costing government K5 billion to renew and issue national identity cards (IDs).
