President Lazarus Chakwera is today expected to appear before parliament to respond to questions from lawmakers pertaining to his State of National Address (SONA) delivered on May 12, 2021.
This is the second time the Malawi Leader is appearing before the National Assembly to respond to questions pertaining to his SONA.
According to information from the national assembly, the president is expected to arrive in the august House at 2 o’clock this afternoon.
“We are all set; we continue to thank the President because he continues to fulfill the Constitutional obligation for him to come appear before Parliament to respond to the issues that Members of Parliament have raised.
This is very important for our democracy because people choose him and he is the leader for people and he must be accountable to the people,” said leader of the House, Richard Chimwendo Banda.
Chimwendo Banda has since assured that the President will respond to the questions addressed to him by the lawmakers.
“It depends on the matters coming on the flow and the opportunity that members have been given to raise issues sometimes people are just overtaken because the President is there but there is always an opportunity given to them to raise those issues.
But be assured that the President that the President will make sure that he addresses almost all pertinent issues in the SONA,” said Chimwendo Banda.
Today, Mzimba Solora legislator Jacob Hara is expected to ask the President how will he ensure that, hence forth, the budget formulation process and MDAs align themselves to the national agenda and vision as already stipulated in the SONA delivered on the opening of the 49th Session of Parliament.
The second question will come from Ntcheu Central lawmaker Albert Mbawala who will ask the President on the creation of jobs, wealth and food security are priorities outlined in the SONA for the next four years, and energy is mentioned as one of the accelerators.
This includes what strategies have been put in place to increase power generation in the country as energy is crucial to achieve the three key priorities as he thinks that Electricity Generation Company (EGENCO) is not generating enough power.
The rest will be supplementary questions that the Chakwera will also tackle.
