Ministry of Gender, Community Development and Social Welfare says it is still consulting various stakeholders on harmonizing laws that protect children in the country.
The Ministry embarked on the process early this year after President Lazarus Chakwera pledged to accelerate the process since there have been tension among various acts that protect children including penal code, child justice, trafficking and marriage and divorce acts.
The line minister Dr Patricia Kaliati said the consultations will be taken to justice ministry for review once the consultations processes are completed.
“We are still consulting thereafter we will engage ministry of justice for review,” she said.
Kaliati however could not disclose the time frame to finalize the process but was quick to point out that her ministry will quicken the process.
On calls to engage men during the process as they are usually perpetrators of violence, Kaliati said her ministry is engaging men through different churches across the country.
