Government says it will prioritise hard to reach areas in rural settings when constructing the pledged 900 health centers.
Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo says currently her Ministry has completed the mapping exercise across the country in areas where such health posts will be constructed.
“That development we are currently working on it in accordance with what the President highlighted in his State of the Nation Address (SONA).
The idea is that we were doing mapping under ministry of health where we had sent out teams across Malawi and we have compiled that report,” she said.
Kandodo added that the construction of the health centers will be done in phases and prioritising hard to reach areas.
“It not going to be a one-year thing, it will be spread around but the idea is that the first should be those very hard to reach areas.
“So, we will prioritise those very hard to reach areas that we get to them first but we are very committed that will see it being done,” said Kandodo.
In his first SONA, President Lazarus Chakwera expressed a committed by his administration to the goal of ensuring that there is a health service every 5km radius.
“For this to happen, we intend to pursue the ambition I set last year to construct 900 Health Posts and staff accommodation in hard-to-reach areas
by the year 2022,” pledged Chakwera.
