The Ministry of Education has disclosed that the 10.5 million US dollars grant from Global Partnership for Education which was meant to support online learning amid the Covid-19 pandemic, was used to recruit auxiliary teachers.
This comes amid an outcry and demand from civil society organisations that government should come clean on how the funds were used.
The funds were among other things meant to procure tablets and produce learning modules for learners to support online classes amid the closure of school due to covid-19, but until now there is nothing to show for it.
But speaking to YFM Spokesperson for the Ministry, Chikondi Chimala, said government decided to use the funds to recruit teachers instead, saying that the online learning approach was not practical.
