As cases of Covid-19 continue to rise in the country, the Malawi Prison service says it has registered 83 cases of corona virus.
Speaking to YFM spokesperson for the service Chimwemwe Mike Shaba said among the registered cases three are prison staffs while 80 are inmates.
“Currently we have 83 cases covid-19 in all our formations of which 80 are inmates and 3 are members of staff,” Shaba said.
However, Shaba said the service is still enforcing the measures that were put forward during the first wave like isolating confirmed cases.
“All the confirmed cases are being accommodated in designated region isolation centers and in isolation centers established at a prison formation,” he said.
“We have not amended all the measures that were put in place in the first wave like separate isolation centers and making sure that there is a strict enforcement of adherence to covid-19 preventive measures.”
