An excruciating knee injury has forced TNM Super League side’s Red Lions striker, Innocent Bokosi, to retire from football.
Bokosi got injured during pre-season friendly match against Mafco in Salima in October last year. In an interview with YFM Online, the striker said he felt it painful to retire early from football due to the knee injury.
“Gone are those days of playing football. It has now taken me nine months but the injury is not healing. When I try to do light training, the knee gets swollen thereafter. At the moment I am just staying at home and I am no longer reporting to work.
“Things will never be the same as I will not be able to show what I am capable of. It pains to retire while young but it all goes with God’s plan as the new chapter awaits,” Bokosi said.
The 30-year-old player started his career with Zomba-based National Statistics FC before he was scouted by former Blantyre United mentor Leo Mpulula. After a season, Bokosi joined Blue Eagles FC before returning to Zomba two years later to join the Malawi Defence Force side Red Lions FC.
