The Centre for Human Rights Education, Advice and Assistance (CHREAA) has expressed concern with the worsening of the congestion situation in the country’s prisons saying it is fueling the spread of Covid-19 among prisoners.
CHREAA’s executive director Victor Mhango said this in light of the continued arrests of people who are defying covid-19 rules who are sent to prisons.
“The approach that we are taking as a country is not practical, we already have a congestion problem which is not being considered at all”.
Mhango suggested that authorities should ensure they look critically into this situation if prisoners are to be protected from Covid-19.
