Police in Mulanje have arrested eight people for contravening farm gate guidelines.
Mulanje Police spokesperson Gresham Ngwira said one of the suspects Chinale Makambale aged 50 alongside seven others were arrested during a special exercise aimed at enforcing farm gate guidelines.T
“The suspects were buying farm produce at lower prices than those set by government, which is a crime,” he said.
Ngwira stated that suspects were also found in possession of Malawi Bureau of Standards under certified weighing scales.
He therefore advised traders and other people to comply with government rules on sale and buying of farm produce.
“We would like to warn all traders who buy and sell farm produce without relevant documents to be on the lookout,” Ngwira added.
