The leader of opposition in the national assembly, Kondwani Nankhumwa, has called for a thorough inquiry into the smuggling of the Loan Authorization Bill into parliament.
Nankhumwa made the call when addressing the media on Friday in Lilongwe.
Nankhumwa said he supports the request by the business and finance committee of the parliament which has already written the secretariat to allow the committee to make an inquiry into the matter.
He further said there was laxity in the way the bill was found on the order paper without knowledge of the leader of the house who is also leader of government business.
The opposition leader has also bemoaned the tendency of defying some standing orders such as observing 28 days- notice before any bill is tabled in the national assembly.
The bill was to allow government to borrow K93 billion from Baroda bank for construction of residential houses for security agencies including police and Malawi Defence Force (MDF).
