President Lazarus Chakwera has commenced recruitment process for new Attorney General (AG), weeks after he fired Chikosa Silungwe.
According to State House Director of Communications Sean Kampondeni, the Malawi leader recently had an engagement with Minister of Justice Titus Mvalo on the issue.
Kampondeni, who was speaking during Monday`s State House briefing at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe, added that Chakwera will be announcing soon the name of the Attorney General once vetting processes of shortlisted names submitted to his desk are done.
He said: “For purposes of public information we wanted the Malawian people to know that the President is attending to this matter and he has discussed it with the Minister of Justice.”
“The President will make the appointment as soon as all the vetting is done because the vetting is done by various agencies,” he said.
Kampondeni also said President Chakwera is concerned with the rise in prices of fertilizer in the country and that he working to address the matter by meeting concerned stakeholders.
“The President is very concerned about the in fertiliser prices as you know the President campaigned the promise of making cheap fertiliser accessible Malawian farmers across the border.
“He is very keen to address this issue head on, and that’s why in the course of the past week he had direct engagements not only with the Ministry of Agriculture but also other stakeholders such as ADMARC,” said Kampondeni.
