Renowned governance commentator Humphrey Mvula has called on the President Lazarus Chakwera to encourage different government entities and stakeholders to put into practice the Access to Information (ATI) Act which is not fully implemented.
According to Mvula, some entities still deprive people’s rights in getting information which is contrary to what the Act states.
“The spirit of access to information bill is not fully implemented since the citizens of Malawi partly know what is happening in government which means we are still handicapped until the act is fully implemented,” he said.
Mvula therefore urged responsible stakeholders including media to lobby regulations which will ensure full enjoyment of the Act.
The access to information Act was gazetted in September 2020.
