President Lazarus Chakwera has disclosed that his government is working on establishing a local fertiliser manufacturing company.
Addressing a people on a whistle stop tour from Mangochi, the Malawi leader said the current rise in fertiliser prices is unrealistic and a syndicate by some suppliers in the country to steal from poor Malawians.
According to Chakwera, his administration is aware that fertiliser prices across the global has risen but the skyrocketing of local fertiliser prices is questionable.
He said consultations are underway with relevant stakeholders on coming up with a fertiliser manufacturing company.
The President has since reiterated his assurance that his administration will consider all necessary means so that Malawians are not exposed to high fertiliser prices.
On this, the Malawi leader said that if the trend continues, government will not hesitate but directing engaging suppliers.
Aside the fertiliser issue, Chakwera also disclosed that his administration is working on the revamping the transport sector citing the operationalisation of Liwonde Dry Port and railway transport.
The President added that once parliament approves funding, his administration will implement various water projects in the eastern region.
