World Vision Malawi has a expressed the need for the media to strengthen HIV/AIDS messages among the Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYWs) aged from 10-24 years.
According to World Vision survey, out of 17.5 million population of Malawi, more than 1 in every 3 inhabitants are AGYWs who are mostly vulnerable.
HIV prevalence rate among AGYWs is four times more than the Adolescent Boys and Young Men (ABYM).
HIV incidences among AGYWs is 8 times higher than ABYMs.
46% of AGYWs had sex with multiple partners before reaching the age of 18 and most of them do not use condoms.
