According to Mulanje police spokesperson, Gresham Ngwira, the four suspects, including a 21 year-old Eliza Chiwambo, pretended to be potential buyers at Lauderdale trading center where they approached a woman selling second hand clothes but did not purchase any item.
Later one of the victims, Fanny Kadzuwa, realized that her money was missing and after following the issue closely she heard that some women had been caught stealing items including cell phones.
“The women were apprehended by some people after suspecting them and the police were informed about the matter and we rushed to the scene and took them into our custody,” said Ngwira.
Ngwira described the development as rare theft cases involving women.
