The Senior Resident Magistrate’s court in Lilongwe has adjourned to October 28, 2021 hearing of a case involving former Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (Mera) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Collins Magalasi.
Magalasi is suspected to have diverted funds amounting K10.5 million from Mera to support a Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) convention in 2018.
According to Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Dr Steven Kayuni, the State has remained with five more witnesses after parading Mera’s financial accountant Mumderanji Chipalapata as third witness on Tuesday.
He said: “We are on witness number three and the other witness who was supposed to be in court is not available so we had to adjourn to another day.
“We are remaining with few witnesses from now, it’s about five witnesses to go and in total we are going to parade eight witnesses.”
Chipalapata told Senior Resident Magistrate Florence Msekandiana that she observed payment and authorised that were made in relation to payment of accommodation for the DPP convention.
The former Mera CEO is answering a charge of abuse of office.
