Police in Lilongwe have arrested 133 people suspected of committing various offences in the city.
According to Lilongwe Police Station Deputy Spokesperson Sergeant Foster Benjamin, the suspects have been arrested on Friday in an operation conceived by officers from Lilongwe Police Station and Police Mobile Service (PMS) C Division.
“The exercise, which was conducted in Area 1, Area 2, Area 36 and Chinsapo, also led to the recovery of numerous assorted items.
“The charges include robbery, being found in possession of counterfeit products like cement and tea, found in possession of property suspected to have been stolen; found in possession of Indian hemp and contravening Covid-19 restrictions,” said Sergeant Benjamin.
Recently, the country’s city dwellers have been complaining about rising cases of insecurity which brought fears among the public.
The suspects are expected to be taken to court soon to answer charges levelled against them.
Police have since assured Malawians that they will continue with the exercise to keep Lilongwe City free of crime.
