The Farmers Union of Malawi (FUM) has described the opening of the fertilizer terminal as a step in the right direction.
President Lazarus Chakwera on Tuesday opened the Liwonde Fertilizer terminal which is under the private-owned Malawi Fertilizer Company.
FUM president Frighton Njolomole said the company has come at a crucial time when prices of fertilizer have risen globally which has also affected the Malawian farmer directly.
Njolomole stated that the company will assist farmers to purchase fertiliser at a reasonable price.
The current price of fertiliser is 40,000 Kwacha per 50 Kilogram bag, which is costly for a Malawian farmer.
