Mzuzu City Council has sealed Mzuzu University (Mzuni) main entrance gate over outstanding city rates amounting to K23 million.

Mzuzu City Council Public Relations Officer MacDonald Gondwe said the council has been engaging authorities from the university on several occasions to pay the rates for a while but to no avail.

Gondwe said the council is simply doing its job by taking action action to the law.

Mzuni Registrar Yonamu Ngwira said the university is in the process of engaging Mzuzu City Council officials on the matter.

In a statement, Ngwira has advised staff, students and service providers to stay away from the campus until advised otherwise.
