The Southern Region Water Board (SRWB) has announced plans to adjust water tariffs upwards as a way of improving its service delivery.
Briefing the media on Thursday, Acting Chief Executive Officer for the board, Duncan Chimbamba, said the current operating environment has changed thereby making it difficult for the board to operate effectively.
“The tariffs we are using were last reviewed in 2018/2019 financial year but looking at the production cost it has greatly increased which is giving us pressure to serve our people,” said Chimbamba.
He said the adjustment is not intended to punish its customers as the board’s tariffs remain the cheapest in the country.
The proposal will see the board raising the price of a 200 liter drum from the current price of K67.48 tambala to a new price of K101.2 tambala for home use and the current K21.74 for a kiosk to K32.61.
