A research has shown that many people in the country are becoming disabled in different ways as a result of delays in seeking medical care when they have developed stroke.
This has been revealed by the Stroke Support Organisation in Malawi (SSO) as the country joins the rest of the world in commemorating World Stroke Day which falls on October 29 annually.
Speaking to YFM, the organisation’s Executive Secretary, Dr George Chimatiro, said in the past the country has not done enough in addressing challenges of stroke.
However, he said there are some interventions that have begun this year to deal with challenge.
Chimatiro cited the introduction of Stroke Support Organisation and also by the end of this year a stroke unit is expected to be instituted at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital which will be caring for stroke patients.
This year the day is being commemorated under the theme: Precious Time.
