The Senior Resident Magistrates Court in Mulanje on Monday fined two men for producing fake seeds.
The two, Emmanuel Buledi, 35, and Morson Chimenya, 59, were found with 117 and 17 packets labelled Pannar Seed and Seed-Co respectively of which they pleaded guilty to the charge.
Making her determination, magistrate Shahida Haneef Bakili ordered the two convicts to pay K200,000 and K150,000 respectively.
In default the court said the convicts should stay in jail for 18 months and 12 months respectively, but the two have since paid the fines.
Mulanje police spokesperson Gresham Ngwira has since warned people of the need to be vigilant when buying seeds and any other farm produce during this rainy season to avoid being duped.
