Media Institute of Southern Africa, MISA Malawi has appealed to government to ensure those that abuse journalists are brought to book.
The call has come as the country joins the international community to commemorate the International day to end impunity for crimes against journalists which falls on 2 November annually.
Chairperson for MISA Malawi Teresa Ndanga said mostly, perpetrators of abuses on journalists are left scold free it gives them an impression that they can treat journalists anyhow.
“The day is a reminder to authorities, that journalism is not a crime and those that perpetrate violence need to be taken to task.
“Unfortunately for Malawi, we have said thus several times, those that perpetrate such crimes are never answerable and this is something that we would want the leadership to look into and to seriously in terms of ending,” Ndanga said.
