Two children in Mulanje have died after being burnt by fire on Wednesday.
The two are Manuel Thonje aged four and Praise Fransa aged three.
Confirming the development to YONECO FM online, Mulanje police spokesperson Gresham Ngwira said the children were playing with a box of matches behind a house where there was a heap of grass and they lit the grass.
“There were actually three children at the scene but the other was quick to move away from the fire.
“The two children hid at the According to Ngwira, the two children hid at the side of the grass where the fire burnt them,” he said.
At the time of the incident, parents to the children had gone away.
Post-mortem results done at Chinyama Health Centre have shown that death was caused by severe burns and suffocation.
Ngwira has advised parents to monitor their children in order to prevent such incidents from happening.
