A 64-year-old woman has died in Mulanje for excessive alcohol intake on November 7.
According to Zidana Jamaica, son to the deceased, on Saturday 6 November, his mother Agnes Namulu left home for local beer drinking at a nearby village.
He further stated that after taking the beer, she proceeded to another place where she continued to drink on an empty stomach and slept afterwards.
Speaking to YONECO FM online, Mulanje police spokesperson Gresham Ngwira, said post-mortem results have shown that death was due to hypoglycaemia as a result of excessive beer drinking on an empty stomach.
Namulu came from Kambora Village, Traditional Authority Ndanga in Mulanje.
“Our advice to people is that, they should ensure that they adequately eat before they go drinking, this will help prevent a recurrence of such cases,” Ngwira said.
