A plea has gone out to authorities to assist the needy students in the country’s universities who are at a verge of withdrawing from their studies for failure to settle their school fees.
The call comes as Mzuzu University has organized a big walk to be led by its vise chancellor, Professor John Kalenga Saka aimed at raising funds for the needy students.
Speaking to Yoneco online, the University’s spokesperson, Cliff Kawanga, said currently the institution has a total of 125 needy students.
Kawanga said: “We want to raise K50 million which will help to provide fees for 125 students because we want to avoid what happened in the last semester whereby a total of 68 students dropped out of school due to similar challenges.
“Therefore we are asking organizations and well-wishers to join us in this fundraising activity.”
The big walk is expected to take place on Saturday, November 20 from Mzuzu University campus to Mzuzu Shopping Mall.
