The Tobacco Commission (TC) says it has plans to conduct an assessment on how the delayed rains will impact tobacco in the country as the country is currently experiencing intermittent spells of rain.
TC spokesperson, Telephorus Chigwenembe in an interview with YFM said the commission would like to visit tobacco growing areas in the country to appreciate the progress of the crop in light of the current situation.
He further explained that the delayed rains have created a worry within the commission on farming of the crop.
In light of this, Chigwenembe said the commission will soon embark on an assessment.
“We as the tobacco commission this week will be visiting various tobacco growing areas to appreciate the situation and assess the situation,” said Chigwenembe.
Despite not giving a clear timeframe on how long the exercise will run, Chigwenembe said the assessment will give picture on how the commission is to proceed on the matter.
