Blantyre District Health Office (DHO) says it has not recorded any confirmed cholera cases in the onset of the rainy season for the first time in many years.
Chrissy Banda, Blantyre DHO spokesperson, attributed the cholera-free status to the Covid-19 pandemic preventive measures.
“Some of the Covid-19 preventive measures are also the one’s that helped in cholera prevention. For example hand washing with soap,” Banda said.
Banda said the office is continuing with distribution of chlorine in health facilities and intensifying surveillance.
“We are doing this so that people should know if they suspect someone who is showing someone who is showing signs and symptoms they should rush to the immediate facility,” she said.
