Sports analyst Bobby Kabango says Malawi National Football Team-The Flames has the potential to climb on FIFA ranking if it beats Senegal.
Kabango made the remarks as the Flames are geared to take on the Lions of Teranga this evening in Cameroon in a decisive match for the next round of the African Cup of Nations.
Speaking to YFM Kabango said a win would boost the teams ranking with FIFA as Senegal is a big team.
“It’s a hope for every Malawian that at least we get it right by beating Senegal. Beating Senegal means beating a big team because there are professionals who play in different countries in the side,” said Kabango.
“So by beating them this will change our FIFA rankings and this will also ensure a spot in the next round of the tournament.”
Meanwhile, commenting on a recent development where President Chakwera has pledged to give Flames players an incentive if they qualify for the next round, Kabango said other well-wishers should emulate this example of awarding the whole team as targeted prizes have the potential to disturb the players.
Kabango said: “since the win against Zimbabwe there have been a lot of gifts from different entities but mostly they have been targeted at individuals.”
“This is not good because other players are not happy, but now the president promising every player with money is good.”
“This should also go out to those who would like to support the team they should look at it wholistically.”
President Chakwera has pledged that if the national team qualifies for the next round to give every player that plays the game against Senegal K1 million and the reserve squad 500 thousand kwacha each.
