Economist Hopkins Kawaye has warned that if the country continues to depend on one source of energy investors will be frustrated.
Kawaye was speaking at a time the country is experiencing massive blackouts due to cyclone Ana which brought about heavy rains causing damage to the country’s power generation stations.
He indicated that it was difficult to quantify how much the country has lost in the three days it has been operating without power but the production industry has suffered a lot.
“The country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and peoples livelihoods will potentially be affected due to this blackout,” Kawaye said.
According to Kawaye, stable electricity is one element which can woo investors to come in the country but there is need to invest in the energy sector.
As of January 26, 2021 the Electricity Generation Company (EGENCO) was uncertain on the exact time when normal operation will resume.
