Political analyst Victor Chipofya has stated that Malawians should not expect much change in terms of performance from the new partial cabinet that the president has appointed.
Chipofya indicated that ten of the appointees have retained their seats with only two new faces and therefore change is highly unlikely.
Chipofya has since implored on President Lazarus Chakwera to refrain from appointments of appeasement when he is completing his cabinet.
“I’d like to advise the president to consider appointing people that will deliver to the best of expectations of Malawians,” said Chipofya.
In the meantime, NGO- Gender Coordination Network chairperson Barbra Banda has lauded Chakwera for appointing a gender sensitive cabinet, alluding to a 41% representation of women.
But Banda was quick to challenge Chakwera to increase the representation to 50%.
“The partial cabinet is in adherence to the Gender Equality Act, there is more than 50% of the country’s population that is female so the president should put that into consideration as he completes his cabinet,” said Banda.
Among the women appointed in the cabinet are Vera Kamtukule, Minister of Labour, Agnes NyaLonje as Minister of Education and Patricia Kaliati as Minister of Gender,Community Development and Social Welfare.
