Centre for Social Concern (CfSC) has expressed the need for government to consider increasing the minimum wage, arguing the current K50,000 wage is not in line with the cost of living of Malawians.
The plea comes ahead of the budget meeting of Parliament from February 3, 2022.
Speaking to YFM Online, Centre for Social Concern executive director, Benard Mphepo, said increasing the minimum wage will relieve many Malawians who are currently struggling due to economic challenges that they are going through.
“We are eager to see Parliamentarian’s priotise discussing issues that will relieve the poor people who are currently struggling economically in the country,” said Mphepo.
He also emphasized on the need for the Members of Parliament (MPs) to raise the free tax band from the current K100,000 to k200,000.
