Government says Malawi stands a better chance of benefiting from the forthcoming 35th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union (AU).
The session, which is scheduled to place from 4th to 6th February 2022 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia will see African leaders deliberating on continental issues such as climate change, peace, security and governance.
President Lazarus Chakwera is expected to be in attendance of the meeting.
Speaking during a media conference in Lilongwe, Government spokesperson Gospel Kazako said President Chakwera will attend the summit also as Southern African Community Development (SADC) Chairperson.
“The President will attend the Summit to promote national interest under the Agenda of 2063 which is the continent’s blueprint for development and integration as well as in his capacity as Chairperson of SADC.
“It should be noted that SADC plays a critical role on the continent in the promotion of peace, security and stability through the SADC Mission in Mozambique,” said Kazako.
The 35th Session will be held under the theme “Building Resilience and Nutrition of the African Continent: Accelerating the Human Capital, Social and Economic Development”.
However, the government spokesperson has failed to disclose both money spent and the number of entourage that will be with Chakwera on the trip.
