The National Planning Commission (NPC) has described President Lazarus Chakwera`s State of the Nation Address as promising towards realising aspirations in the Malawi 2063 national blueprint.
According to the Commissioner`s Director General, Thomas Munthali, Chakwera’s quest for fixing what he called broken system in delivering long-term priorities is what Malawi needs to address the current challenges.
Munthali said: “I think its very exciting to hear the President talk about focusing on the long-term priorities because that means we as a nation are still focused on realising the aspirations to the Malawi 2063 and the ten-year plan.
“But for us to get there we need to fix certain things and it was good for him mentioning which areas need to be fixed.”
He added that the country needs to seek collaboration both at individual and national level if the ten-year plan is to be achieved.
Munthali has however lamented that rising cases of corrupt practices are capable of derailing the country progress towards attainment of the Malawi 2063.
“Because without indeed fixing what is broken like the governance, the issues of corruption and so on, then it will be very hard for us to get there,” he said.
In his address titled “Fixing the Systems to Deliver Long-Term Priorities and Diffuse Short-Term Pressures” Chakera said his dream is that by the time his Administration is done, it should be remembered as the one which fixed the systems to usher this country into a new future.
