Ministry of Health (MoH) says Malawi is making significant strides in cancer management, prevention and control.
Assistant Director of Clinical Services responsible for non –communicable diseases in the line ministry, Hastings Chituzu Chiuma, made the remarks as the country joins the global community to commemorate world cancer day which falls on 4th February annually.
According to Chiuma MOH is providing HPV vaccine to control and prevent cervical cancer, cancer screening and cancer awareness among others.
Chiuma said: “The construction of the cancer centre in Lilongwe is one of the commitments government has shown to ensure people access cancer care, diagnosis and treatment.”
In Malawi, most women die due to cervical cancer.
The theme for this year’s World Cancer Day was “closing the care gap”.
