President Lazarus Chakwera says he is optimistic that the engagements he had during the 35th African Union Assembly will bear fruit.
Chakwera made the comment when he returned home from the summit which was held from 4 to 6 February 2022.
According to Chakwera, Malawi will benefit from Rays of Hope Initiative by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to scale up capacity among countries in the fight against cancer.
“We talked about the cancer center here with international Atomic agency and it will be a great thing when they come to help us complete this project,” he said.
In his maiden speech Chakwera demanded collaborative efforts in addressing climate change in the wake of disasters such as the recent Tropical Storm Ana, which inflicted overwhelming destruction to lives and property in Malawi and Mozambique.
“We talked about the catastrophe’s that are happening across the continent how we can help one another and how we can build better green, energy and economies across the continent.”
