Police in Kasungu have arrested 25-year-old Happy Phiri for allegedly abducting and defiling two girls aged 14 and 16.

Kasungu Police Station deputy spokesperson Miracle Mkozi said the minors, who are originally from Machinga, went to Kasungu in December last year to visit their uncle.

“On January 4, 2022 the uncle to the minors sent them to visit their grandparents and while there the 16-year-old was involved in a relationship with the suspect,” Mkozi said.

According to Mkozi, on February 2, 2022, the suspect took the girls to a rest house where he locked them inside a room for five consecutive days and defiled them.

“The minors were not allowed to move out of the room but the suspect was providing food and all needs,” Mkozi said.
