Parliament has adopted a motion for amendment of the National Children’s Commission Act through a Private Member’s Bill.
The bill is set to amend sections 4, 5 and 6 of the Act to enable the setting up and operationalisation of the National Children’s Commission.
According to mover of the motion, Dedza North lawmaker, Savel Kafwafwa, the drafting of the Bill originates from the background that there are various obstacles concerning the operationalisation of the Commission.
In an interview, Kafwafwa said once amended, the Bill will play a critical role in addressing challenges that children face in the country.
Kafwafwa said: “Through the Bill, the country will have a Commission which will just be looking into the relevant issues of children such as budgeting and laws concerning children.”
Despite being under the Ministry of Gender, the Commission will be going across different ministries and will have a wider catch.
