Youth Net and Counselling (YONECO) executive director MacBain Mkandawire has implored on humanitarian actors to consider providing psychological support to flood survivors in all affected areas
Mkandawire made the call when he visited some camps in Chikwawa on Sunday 13 February.
“We are probably far from starting the response and that is a major issue that humanitarian actors need to critically think on how we are going to accelerate that,” he said.
According to Mkandawire, apart from provision of physical needs such as food and shelter, it is also important to tackle psychological needs of the people.
Mkandawire also spoke tough on the need to strengthen child protection in camps and prevent other abuses.
Mkandawire took time to play some games with children at the camp and encouraged them to return to school when the situation normalizes.
